In last three years till 2021, inflow of medical tourists in India from bangladesh surged by 83% (Source: Tourism Ministry, Govt. Of India)
About 54% of all foreign medical tourists to India are from Bangladesh. In 2020, around 2.5 million of Bangladeshis went to India for treatment as recorded, and spent 700 million USD.
Bangladesh is a highly populated developing country in the world.
Among the outbound medical tourists from Bangladesh in the 2018-19 financial year, 60.41 percent went to India alone.
In the 2018-19 FY, Bangladeshis spent Tk 99.33 billion on treatment abroad while the total expenditure by the outbound tourists was Tk 336.80 Billion.
According to Bangladesh Outbound Tour Operators Forum, on average eight lakh people go abroad for treatment every year from Bangladesh while India is the most favorite destination for them.
According to a report carried by The Times of India on July this year, a huge majority of medical tourists – 54.3 percent – who visited India last year were from Bangladesh, followed by 9 percent from Iraq, 8 percent from Afghanistan, 6 percent from Maldives and 4.5 percent from a group of African Nations.
